Not all folks at MRW Systems work in tech–joining the blog for the month of November is Katlyn Wolinski, our Marketing Director.
Katlyn is our behind-the-scenes gal. She is the one who is responsible for our website development, marketing campaigns, and promotional collateral.
So, ready to see what it’s like working at MRW Systems as a non-techie? Check out her Q&A blog post:
What is your role at MRW Systems?
Hiya, I work as MRW’s marketing director.
I like to think of myself as the swiss army knife of marketing. I do a little bit of everything from copywriting to creating landing pages to designing flyers and promotional goods.
What is your proudest moment at MRW Systems?
Recently, we launched our first webinar campaign for NetGarde. Being the first webinar ever, I wasn’t sure if we would get any traction.
When the first email blast went out for it, I set a low bar goal… I wanted to get at least one registrant. Well, we got much more than that. We literally smashed my goal within a day. I can’t tell you how elated I was about that!
What does a typical day look like to you?
I start every day looking at our Google analytics. I like to see what pages are trending and how folks are finding us. This data helps me figure out which marketing messages are successful, and which ones are not so great.
From there, it depends on where I’m at in a marking campaign. One day, I might be putting together a new strategy for a campaign. Another day, I might be executing that strategy. From emailing marketing, direct mail, SEO, to branding–I do it all. It’s a real fun profession!
Before working at MRW Systems, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
In college, I used to groom horses at my college’s onsite equestrian facility.
I’d start my day at 5:30 am and groom about 15-20 horses. And let me tell you, these horses were ALWAYS covered in mud. It was like they thought it was their job to roll every night.
Luckily, I’d finish just in time for my 8:30 am classes. Of course, I wouldn’t have time to shower beforehand, so yes, I always rolled into class covered in mud.
What do you do in your spare time?
I ride horses! I’ve been riding since I was in elementary school, and I can’t imagine spending my free time any differently. But those days I don’t make it out to the barn, I enjoy fine dining, yoga, knitting, and going on urban hikes with my boyfriend.
What is one tech thing you can’t live without?
My iPad Pro is my workhorse. I use it for EVERYTHING–drawing, reading, and streaming TV shows. The screen resolution is golden, and it’s much more portable than my iMac.
What fictional character do you relate to the most and why?
Can I take a Buzzfeed quiz for this? Yes?
According to this quiz, I relate most to Wall-E. “[I’m] loyal, strong, and work your robutt off for the greater good of the world. [I’m] lucky enough to be able to think with your head but follow your heart at the same time.”
If you had to pick, what superpower would you want and why?
Hands down, teleportation. I feel like I could accomplish so much in a day with that power. Not to mention, it would also eliminate sitting in congested traffic.
What is your favorite and least favorite foods?
Hands down, my least favorite food is raw sauerkraut. I cannot get down with the smell. I’m also not a fan of wilted spinach… That’s just not a good texture.
My favorite food is a harder question. It depends on the season. For fall, I lean towards French cuisine. Right now, I could go for a plate of duck confit, or coq au vin. And who doesn’t love a good croque-monsieur?!
Lastly, what are three things still left on your bucket list?
One, import a Pura Raza Española horse from Spain. And then train that horse up to Prix St Georges level in dressage.
Two, spend a week at a dude ranch in Montana.
Three, more travel!
